| Located 15 minutes southwest of the Kansas Capital City of Topeka,
we pride ourselves on being "A Flint Hills Landmark Since 1878!" Via I-70 or
the Kansas Turnpike (I-335), our country inn is just over an hour and fifteen minutes from Kansas
City and right at two hours from Wichita.
Part of the pleasant experience of the Sage Inn is the journey in getting
there itself. There are no "bad" routes to Dover. Travelers will enjoy seeing the "beautiful" side
of Kansas along our Native Stone Scenic Byway.
Huge boulders frequent the glaciated area where many farmsteads and bridges were made from the
abundant rock.
Rolling hills look pretty much the same as they did a century ago. As
the seasons change, the landscape is appreciated by photographers,
artists, and vacationers alike. The following directions will be
helpful in navigating the countryside. Click-on-Print, and ask for only pages 2 & 3 to get the driving directions.
Coming from Topeka
Go west on 21st or 29th
Street until you come to the stop sign at Auburn Road. From 21st,
turn left for the equivalent of about three blocks until K-4 curves right off of
Auburn. It is then nine miles on K-4 to Dover, where the Inn is on your right
at the stop sign. From 29th, turn left onto Auburn and follow it approximately
three miles south to the blinking yellow light at
61st Street. Turn right there and drive seven miles west, including a
dogleg north that changes the road to 57th Street, to a stop sign in the center
of Dover. The Inn is on the northwest corner of that main intersection of
57th and Douglas.
If you are further south of Topeka, take 61st Street west
to Auburn Road (red blinking light). Continue west on 61st
Street and follow the directions above
to
the main intersection in Dover. Again, the Inn is on the
northwest corner of this intersection. This would be the quickest route
coming from HEARTLAND PARK RACE TRACK.
The track is on south Topeka Blvd. (south edge of Topeka). When you leave the
track, go north to 57th street and turn left (west). 57th turns at Burlingame Rd
and jogs south, then becomes 61st street.
This
Map is a view of the route starting from Topeka, KS (S - Start) on I-70
and taking exit 353 (Auburn Rd), ending in Dover, KS (E - End) via K-4
Highway. Right above the 99 Highway Circle is the intersection
with K-4 Highway. This is Eskridge.
Coming from Kansas City
Coming from Kansas City on
the turnpike, take the first Topeka (east) toll exit 182, mile marker 366 on I-70.
Go 20 miles through Topeka to Exit 346 (Carlson Road). Turn left
at the end of the ramp and drive seven miles south on Carlson Road to a stop
sign intersection with K-4 Highway. This is just west of Mission Creek, which
is behind the Sage Inn property. Turn back left and go ½ mile to the downtown
Dover intersection. We are on the northwest corner.
Coming from Wichita or Emporia
From
I-335 (or the Turnpike), take Exit 147 [Council Grove/Osage City].
You'll go three miles back west (left) on Highway 56 to where it
intersects with Highway 99 (just outside of Admire). Go North on
Highway 99 to Eskridge where 99 intersects with K-4 Highway (see the
map above). Go right on K-4 to Keene, then Dover. We are on the
northwest corner of the Dover intersection. The Sage Inn is about 30
miles from the turnpike..
Coming from West I-70, Heading East
If
you are coming from Salina, Abilene, Junction City or Manhattan, you
may want to take Exit 342 (Keene-Eskridge) off of I-70 which is a
little more scenic, or Exit 346 which is straighter and quickest. Both
roads will eventually deadend on K-4 Highway. You will turn left and be
going east on K-4 to the stop sign in downtown Dover. We are on the
northwest corner of the intersection.
Coming from Southeast Kansas
Take
75 Highway North to Lyndon. Turn off on 31 Highway west to Osage City,
go north out of Osage City on 56 Highway and follow the signs to
Burlingame, then Auburn. Continue north on Auburn Road to 61st Street
(flashing red light). Turn west (left) and follow the road which will
eventually become 57th Street to the Dover intersection. We are on the
northwest corner of the intersection.
Coming from Northeast Kansas (or Casinos)
Take
75 Highway going south to I-70 (or 470 Topeka Wrap around) and go west.
Follow the directions then as if coming from Kansas City. |
